I am Benard Ochieng, the proud founder of Ben’s Best Books Ltd. Today, I want to share with you the heart and vision behind our company and how we are striving to make a difference in our community through the power of literature.
The Inspiration Behind Ben’s Best Books
The idea for Ben’s Best Books Ltd was born out of a deep passion for reading and a desire to make a positive impact on society. Growing up, I experienced firsthand the transformative power of books. They opened up new worlds, inspired me, and provided valuable lessons that shaped who I am today. However, I also saw that many people in our community did not have access to quality literature. This realization sparked a dream to create a company that would make books accessible to everyone, especially those in underserved communities.
As Dr. Seuss wisely said, “The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.” This line is from the book I Can Read with My Eyes Shut!, written by Dr. Seuss (1978).
Our Vision and Mission
At Ben’s Best Books, our vision is to empower minds and nurture a culture of reading and creativity. We are dedicated to providing educational, motivational, and Christian literature, including audiobooks, to underserved communities. Our mission is to inspire, educate, and motivate through high-quality literature, and to support local authors by giving them a platform to share their stories and ideas.
Core Values That Guide Us
Our journey is guided by five core values: Integrity, Excellence, Community, Innovation, and Passion. These values shape everything we do, from the books we select to the way we interact with our customers and partners. We believe in upholding the highest standards of honesty and ethical behavior, striving for excellence in our products and services, building strong relationships with our community, embracing creativity and new ideas, and fostering a love for reading and learning.
As Proverbs 16:3 reminds us, “Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.“
Supporting Local Authors
One of our key goals is to support local authors. We believe that local voices are essential in creating a diverse and vibrant literary community. By providing a platform for local authors, we aim to celebrate their unique stories and perspectives, and to help them reach a wider audience.
Community Engagement
Community is at the heart of everything we do. We are committed to engaging with our community through various initiatives, such as hosting book readings, author signings, and workshops. We also partner with local schools, churches, and organizations to promote literacy and foster a love for reading.
As the saying goes, “It takes a village to raise a child.” – African Proverb. It reflects the emphasis African cultures place on family and community and may have its origins in a Biblical Worldview, such as Ecclesiastes 4:9,12 and Isaiah 49:15-16. We believe it also takes a village to nurture a love for reading!
Looking Ahead
As we continue to grow, we have ambitious plans for the future. Our strategic goals include establishing a strong presence in Ngong Town, Kajiado Kenya, launching a publishing unit, expanding within the Nairobi Metropolitan area, and achieving nationwide reach, then later consider cross-boarder. We are excited about the journey ahead and the impact we can make together.

I am Catherine Cherop, the Co-Founder of Ben’s Best Books Ltd. Today, I am thrilled to share with you our journey and the incredible impact we are making in our community through the love of reading.
The Birth of a Dream
The journey of Ben’s Best Books Ltd. began with a shared dream from my beloved husband Benard Ochieng. We both recognized the profound impact that books had on our lives and wanted to extend that gift to others. Our vision was clear: to create a space where literature could empower minds and nurture creativity, especially in underserved communities.
While still on Dr. Seuss, isn’t it amazing how he captures the joy and wonder of reading? “You can find magic wherever you look. Sit back and relax, all you need is a book.” As for the meaning of the quote, Dr. Seuss is emphasizing the transformative power of reading. Books have the ability to transport us to different worlds, spark our imagination, and provide endless entertainment and knowledge. By saying “You can find magic wherever you look,” he suggests that the magic of stories and learning is always accessible through books. So, all you need to do is sit back, relax, and dive into a book to experience this magic.

As the African proverb goes, “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.” We are committed to going far together with our community.
Upcoming Events and Initiatives

Book Reading and Signing with Local Authors: Join us for an afternoon of storytelling and book signings with some of our talented local authors, as communicated from time to time.
Literacy Workshops for Schools: We will be hosting a series of workshops in partnership with local schools to promote literacy and a love for reading among students.
Community Book Drive: Help us collect books for underserved communities by participating in our book drive as organized from time to time.
